Where AI Helps in a Software Project
Teams ask for “AI” the way they once asked for an app. The useful version is specific. A support desk that drafts a reply for a human to send. A search box that tolerates the words customers actually type. A queue that groups similar tickets. Those are features with a fallback when the model is wrong.
The weak version is a chatbot glued to the homepage that invents prices, legal terms, or delivery dates. If the business has rules, those rules should live in the software. The model can explain them. It should not be the only place they exist.
Cost is part of the design. Model calls are a usage charge, separate from the software build, the same way SMS and WhatsApp are. We say that on the commercial scope so a demo does not become a surprise invoice.
Start with one workflow, keep a human on the action that spends money or changes a customer record, and log what the model returned. That is enough AI for a first release. A larger rollout can wait until the first one is trusted.
